Mission Statement

The Friends of Jean Webster is an organization dedicated to alleviating hunger and poverty in Atlantic City, NJ, by bringing together individual donors, volunteers, and funding sources to provide food, clothing, and other resources to people in need. This work is guided by respect and compassion for our guests and the spirit of Jean Webster, whose mission was simply and profoundly to feed the people.

Vision

Our vision is to be an organization that enables people of diverse backgrounds, talents, and lived experiences to work together to provide necessities for our neighbors in need, respecting everyone's value, dignity, and basic rights.

Core Values

Integrity – We uphold the highest professional standards of honesty and transparency in all interactions. We seek and use input from stakeholders, including guests, family members, staff, and referral/funding sources in decision making, strategic planning, and quality improvement.

Respect – We respect people’s rights and dignity, accepting people for who they are, not who we think they should be. Inspired by Jean Webster, we treat those we serve as honored guests.

Service to our Guests – We strive to meet or exceed guest expectations in all interactions.

Diversity and Inclusion – We open ourselves to learning about the cultural backgrounds of our board members, staff, and guests, striving to communicate to all that they are welcome and valued. We provide opportunities for people with disabilities to participate in our work and benefit from our services. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, national origin, disability, or age.

Integration and Partnerships – We foster strong community partnerships, so that we can work together to seek the best possible outcomes for our guests, as well as people receiving services from other community organizations.

Empowerment – We provide needed support to ensure individuals have power and control of their lives.

Teamwork – We work to create and maintain a resilient organization where all, including board, staff, and guests live our shared values and vision, while nurturing hope for a more just and caring society and world.
